Council Works to Keep Services Running during Day of Action

H&F "doing its best to minimise the effect of strikes"

Hammersmith and Fulham Council has moved to reassure local residents that it is doing its best to guarantee services will continue to run during the TUC's Day of Action planned for next Wednesday, November 30.

A council spokesman said: "The unions have called a nationwide 'day of action' for 30 November, 2011. Hammersmith & Fulham Council is working hard to minimise service disruptions to residents locally.

" Bin collections and street sweeping are expected to be operating as normal as are the majority of council services - although some schools and libraries may be forced to close.

" Parents are advised to call their child's school direct if they are concerned about possible closure.

" The council is working with the unions to keep services like meals on wheels, emergency housing works and Careline open.

" The council is doing its best to minimise the effect of these nationwide strikes but the situation is fluid and we do advise residents to check our website and Twitter feed for live updates."

23 trade unions representing people working in the public sectors have received a mandate from their members for industrial action on November 30, and millions of people are expected to take part across the country.

They are campaigning for what they call Pensions Justice, protesting against government policies which they say will make workers pay more and work longer for a lot less.

There will be events across London during the Day of Action, including a march through Central London setting off from Lincoln's Inn Fields at 1pm, heading for a rally on Victoria Embankment at 2pm.
