Grants Awarded to 42 Community Groups |
Council scheme shares out £100,000 42 community groups in Hammersmith and Fulham are being offered a total of £100,000 worth of small grants between them under the council’s Fast Track scheme. Hammersmith & Fulham Council says it sets aside this money to help the many voluntary and community groups that work in the borough as a mark of appreciation for the valuable work that they do in the community. Groups were invited to apply for small grants of up to £5,000. Over 300 community groups have benefited from the Fast Track scheme since it was launched in 2006. The list of beneficiaries includes groups as diverse as the Friends of Wendell Park, Fulham Black Community Association, H&F Pensioners Forum and Special Olympics H&F. This year the biggest grant of £7,000 went to the Amici Dance Theatre Company, a unique company integrating able-bodied and disabled artists and performers which holds classes every Wednesday during term time at the Lyric Hammersmith. Foundations UK, a charity based in W14 which aims to help young people look after themselves through healthy eating and exercise received £6,000 and Fulham's Brunswick Club for Young People was awarded £4,000. Cllr Joe Carlebach, Cabinet Member for Community Care says: " Our Fast Track scheme recognises that there are many local groups in the borough who provide wonderful services but sometimes struggle to pay for particular projects or activities. “The small grants on offer can make life for them much easier and voluntary groups will be pleased to know that we shall be accepting more applications in the near future." In fact the council has set aside another £100,000 for voluntary and community groups, with applications accepted from July 5 until August 16.
