Hammersmith and Fulham Council ditches bottled water
Hammersmith & Fulham Council have decided to move from having costly bottled water in its offices and instead introducing mains-fed water where appropriate.
Councillor Mark Loveday, cabinet member for strategy, said, "We're leaving no stone unturned in our quest to decrease the cost of running the council. Delivering value for money is a priority of this council, and while in the big scheme of things saving on bottled water might not be the largest cost reduction, every little helps."
Last year H&F council spent just under £36,000 on bottled drinking water. By ensuring all its offices have mains-fed water, not only will this cost be eradicated, but the council will also be doing its bit to become more environmentally friendly. The amounts of energy used in the extraction, bottling, packaging and transport of bottled water is significant.
