Chief Executive 'very proud' as students achieve 93% pass rate
Local college Hammersmith Ealing, Hammersmith and West London has recorded another strong set of GCSE results this year with a pass rate of 93%.
2016 is the first year that 16-18 year olds have had to retake their Maths or English GCSEs if they had not achieved a C grade first time round.
The College says it has fielded impressive results with GCSE maths students +13% on the previous year and English and maths achievement for 16-18 year olds above the national average.
Functional skills in maths and English saw a boost with a 13% improvement on 2015 and 16-18 year olds’ achievement 12% above the national average.
Among the high flyers is Baraa Sanib who passed his maths GCSE and is now going to the University of Edinburgh to study Civil Engineering. On top of that, he also won a Jack Petchey Award for Outstanding Achievement as a student ambassador.
Baraa said: "I had a lovely, enjoyable year in a fantastic class and I am proud of my result".
William Kamester scored a C in English - an achievement that will allow him to move into Travel and Tourism level three. William says he had been on the edge of giving up, but is "over the moon" with his results.
He said: "I'm doing better than I've ever done before. The tutors are so enthusiastic about what they teach, it's fantastic".
Suzanne Alshaikh sat both Maths and English, picking at an A and a C respectively. She said: "I was very nervous when I picked up my marks, especially because my teachers were there and they already knew I'd passed! I plan to stay on at EHWLC to do my A-levels".
Garry Phillips, Chief Executive, said: “We are very proud of our GCSE students’ achievements this year. We pride ourselves in restoring the skills and confidence that young people need to tackle these qualifications which will provide a foundation for the rest of their lives.
" It is important to understand how having a good experience of education with us can change lives and inspire students to continue with their education, going on to courses like A Levels or Higher Education qualifications."
For students looking to move onto A Level study or their vocational equivalents, Ealing, Hammersmith and West London’s College offers a wide range of courses and has places available for this September.
