Domestic abuse charity Advance has launched a dedicated advice and support line for young women and girls across London, offering a new lifeline to those experiencing unhealthy relationships, family conflict or emotional distress.

The Maia Support Line, aimed at 13–25-year-olds, will provide confidential guidance for young people who may be struggling with relationships, school pressures, loneliness or early signs of abuse. Parents, carers and professionals in education, health and youth services will also be able to seek advice.

Frances Rahman, Head of Young Women and Girls Services at Advance, said the service is designed to be accessible and judgment-free.

“Whether you're a girl who’s fallen out with your friends, feeling unsure about a relationship, or worried about exams, our Maia team are here to listen and advise. Nothing is too small an issue and you don’t have to face things alone.”

Advance, which was set up in the borough of Hammersmith & Fulham in 1998, says the new phoneline reflects its commitment to early intervention and prevention, particularly as young women and girls remain disproportionately affected by domestic abuse and violence.

Research shows that the risk of abuse increases as age decreases, with 16- and 17-year-olds among the most vulnerable. Without support, many young survivors face long-term trauma and may become further entangled in harm, including school exclusion or involvement in the criminal justice system.

The support line will be staffed by specialists and peer mentors from Advance’s Maia service, which provides one-to-one support, mentoring and group work. The service forms part of wider efforts to reduce violence against women and girls over the next decade.

Advance describes Maia as a pioneering model that helps young women and girls not only stay safe but build confidence, fulfil aspirations and move forward positively.

The Maia Support Line is open Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm on 0800 059 0117.

Email support is also available at maia@advancecharity.org.uk.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.
