Charing Cross patient rides in aid of research into brain tumours
Dan Wiggins, a Charing Cross Hospital patient is organising a charity bike ride from the hospital to raise money for brain tumour research.
Dan 33, is holding the event in aid of the national charity Brain Tumour Research Campaign or BTRC, which has a research centre at Charing Cross Hospital.
Dan, pictured here with wife Lucy, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour four years ago, says: " I want to raise money for research into treatment that will slow the growth of brain tumours and ultimately cure them.
" I decided to organise a bike ride because since my diagnosis, I haven’t been able to drive so I’ve had to become a keen cyclist.
" I’m expecting about 20 friends and family to join me for the 15 mile cycle event. I’m also inviting any staff from Charing Cross Hospital who’d like to take part to come along too.
" For those who don’t fancy the ride, any sponsorship would be welcome."
BTRC’s founder, Wendy Fulcher, set up the charity after her husband John died aged 52 of brain cancer at Charing Cross in 2001.
" Research into brain tumours is in its infancy," she says. "Very little is known about their behaviour, effective diagnoses and treatment. We’re very grateful to Dan for his fundraising efforts, which will help our research enormously."
If you would like to cheer Dan on, the bike ride will begin at Charing Cross Hospital outside the Reynolds building at 10.30 on March 28. The route will take in Richmond Park and end back at Charing Cross at about 2pm.
