First Books Unbound Festival Set for this Weekend

Goldolphin & Latymer hosts programme designed to appeal to wide audience

The Godolphin & Latymer School is holding its first ever community book festival over the weekend of Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 June.

Called Books Unbound, this new festival will raise money for local charity Doorstep Library, for literacy initiatives in local state primary school Lena Gardens and also for the Godolphin & Latymer Bursary Fund.

The festival programme is designed to appeal to a wide audience. The topics of Saturday’s sessions range from popular fiction to food and military history, while Sunday will appeal more to teenagers, young-adults and parents.

Session highlights include:

• Former Blue Peter presenter, actress and broadcaster Janet Ellis, speaking about her debut novel The Butcher’s Hook
• Psychologist and behavioural scientist, Dr. Linda Papadopoulos, (from Big Brother on Channel 4, ITV’s LK Today, The Wright Stuff on Channel 5 ) on living up to our online identites
• Helena Coggan, inspiring young author of The Catalyst, written when she was just 13 years old
• Wellbeing expert and contributing editor to Vogue magazine, Calgary Avansino, author of Keep It Real: Create a Healthy, Balanced and Delicious Life - For You and Your Family

There will also be a Saturday Night Book Jam of music and comedy featuring singer-songwriter Emma McGrath and comedians Chris Martin, Eshaan Akbar, Glenn Moore and Damian Clark.

Development Director, Julia Hodgkins, from Godolphin & Latymer, who is hosting the event, says: " We hope this festival will raise awareness of the power of the spoken and written word to bring about change. As a school, we recognize the importance of engagement with literature for a child’s development and so are delighted to support two inspiring, local, reading-related causes."

Books by featured authors will be available to buy over the weekend from the festival bookshop run by the Barnes Bookshop.
