Nearly all local roads affected by Sunday's 10km Adidas City Run
Chelsea and Fulham MP Greg Hands has accused H&F Council of 'extreme negligence' over the inaugural Adidas City Run, which is now underway on Sunday, with roads across Fulham shut down, buses diverted and local residents unable to use their cars.
Yesterday the MP tweeted @GregHands: "Just 20 hours until 20,000 Fulham residents find themselves virtually locked in for the day, and Hammersmith & Fulham Council is totally failing to communicate ANYTHING about the Adidas City Run.
*no website mention
*no Twitter mention
*no NextDoor mention
Extreme negligence."
He added: "More shocking incompetence from Hammersmith & Fulham Council in not even getting tomorrow’s Adidas City Run listed on TfL’s events list. Means many planning journeys by public transport through or near Fulham will be in for a bit of a surprise tomorrow."
Today he posted this picture of traffic at the closed Junction of Rylston and Dawes Roads, saying: "Labour H&F Council already paying the price for no publicity for today’s Adidas Run. Queues of cars building where drivers haven’t heard that Fulham is in virtual lock down. If the taxi drivers haven’t heard, then you’re in trouble...."
Thousands of people have been running on roads across SW6 throughout Sunday for the run, which was postponed in March due to bad weather.
The 10 km route begins and ends at Eel Brook Common and as the map above shows, taking in New Kings, Munster, Dawes, Harwood and Fulham Roads as well as Parsons Green Lane.
The "mass participation" run, which is supporting Great Ormond Street Hospital, is provisionally scheduled to end at 1pm.
According to the event's website this means New Kings Road will be closed between Wandsworth Bridge Road and Parsons Green from 6am till 2pm.
Nearly every street in Fulham is affected, till at least midday.
However, Wandsworth Bridge Road is now open again after being closed for emergency work by Thames Water and Kings Roads is open to the east. Roads to the south of Kings Road are also open.
You can see full details of the closures in here.
The City Run website says: "Please note the below list of roads will be affected, but might not be closed in full. There are egress points in place for residents who wish to leave the area before 8:50am. If you have any questions regarding the closures, please email community@adidascityruns.com."
