A man has died and three others are in hospital after a car collided with a building in West Kensington in the early hours of Saturday morning (10 June).

The collision happened at around 3.10am on West Cromwell Road, W14. At this early stage it is understood that the car was seen by police officers being driven at speed on Talgarth Road (A4) in Hammersmith shortly before the collision. A police car followed the vehicle and signalled for it to stop, but it sped away out of sight of the officers. When next seen by the officers, it had been involved in the collision in West Cromwell Road.

The car became wedged between the side of the building and steps leading to a basement.

Two of the occupants were able to free themselves and the other two were trapped in the vehicle and had to be extracted by London Fire Brigade. All the men, who are believed to be in their twenties, were taken to hospital.

One of the men died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed. A second man remains in hospital in a critical condition.

The other two other men have been arrested in connection with the incident. Neither suffered serious injuries.

The incident required the closure of the road and the M4 eastbound from junctions 1 to 3 which led to substatial traffic jams in the West London area including Fulham, Hammersmith, Shepherd's Bush and Chiswick. The roads have now reopened.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or the moments leading up to the incident, is asked to contact police via 101.
