Artistic director asks local people for help during next tube strike
London Theatre Workshop on New Kings Road in Fulham are asking local people to support their new venture if next week's tube strike goes ahead.
The company's third production, Just Another Love Story, a celebration of music by Stephen Sondheim starts its run on May 6, right in the middle of the second strike this month.
Artistic director Ray Rackham says: "As you are aware, a new theatre space has opened above the Eel Brook pub on New Kings Road. London Theatre Workshop opened on 10th March with a production of Ordinary Days, which many of you came to see.
" You might be interested to learn that Ordinary Days has been nominated in the Best Musical category at this year's Off-West-End awards. I am, as you can imagine, thrilled by this news.
" Our second musical, a revue of Stephen Sondheim's love songs, entitled Just Another Love Story, is due to open on 6th May and will run until 24th at our little boutique theatre; and frankly I need your help!
" We have a cast of eight, including three members of our Ordinary Days cast returning to take on different roles in this piece. I am again directing the piece, and Thomas Lees (the wonderful pianist in Ordinary Days) has returned to play for us.
" The tube strike scheduled for next week run the risk of completely obliterating our audience for the first week; and this is where you might be able to help us.
" As local residents, you are exactly the type of audience member we are trying to attract to our new theatre. It's imperative that we get the audiences in, otherwise our landlord will pull the plug on the venture, and the good work we have done in creating a unique theatre space for Fulham will be lost. Having a 72 hour tube strike in the opening week of our next musical fills me with dread.

As well as being close to Fulham Broadway and Parsons Green tube stations, the theatre can be reached using the 11, 22, 28 or 295 buses and is a short walk across Eel Brook Common from Fulham Road and the 14 and 414 buses.
Stephen Sondheim has written some of the most evocative and heart-felt love songs within the history of the Musical Theatre form. As the recipient of the 2012 Brighton Festival Angel for Artistic Excellence, Just Another Love Story celebrates, explores and questions the concept of love through the songs written by Broadway’s foremost composer lyricist.
Including an exciting balance of Sondheim standards and relatively unknown and unheard music from as varied source material as A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Follies, Road Show, Assassins, A Little Night Music, film scores and many more; Just Another Love Story promises to delight audiences new to the songs as much as the die-hard Sondheim aficionado.
The show, the third production from the new theatre, features an eight strong, ensemble cast, and is directed by London Theatre Workshop’s Artistic Director, Ray Rackham, with musical direction by Thomas Lees.
Rackham and Lees were the creative team behind London Theatre Workshop’s inaugural production, Ordinary Days.
