250 People Attend Fulham Reach Exhibition

New riverside development will offer 750 new homes

Around 250 local people attended Fulham Reach (formerly Hammersmith Embankment) Planning Application Exhibition on March 12 and 13.

The exhibition was held by St George Central London Ltd to provide an opportunity for everyone to view the latest proposals for the riverside site at Fulham Reach, ask questions and make comments.

The public exhibition included drawings and images of the proposals for Fulham Reach as well as a model of the site. Members of the project team were on hand to talk through the proposals.

The exhibition followed on from the Community Planning Weekend in November 2010 when the Vision for Fulham Reach was created.

The site was formerly called Hammersmith Embankment but St George, the developer behind a number of other riverside developments in West London including Fulham's Imperial Wharf and its latest Kew Bridge, decided to change it to Fulham Reach to differentiate it from adjacent office buildings.

Architects John Thompson and Partners say Fulham Reach will be a high quality mixed-use scheme, designed to create a vibrant, active and sustainable environment for residents, visitors and the local community.

The 7.25 acre brownfield site, located close to Hammersmith's transport hub and retail centre will offer 750 new homes and around 350 new jobs.

The development will improve pedestrian and cycle access along the Thames Path, create public open space adjacent to he River Thames, including a new square that is surrounded by restaurants and other local facilities.

A boat club including boat storage will also be accommodated together with a new pontoon providing access to the river and the foreshore which is being built out as part of the first phase of the development.

A planning application for Fulham Reach was lodged with the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham on February 7 and it has now been registered and given a registration number of 2011/00407/COMB.

The application revealed that St George hopes to build 750 residential units in eight blocks, ranging from three to nine storeys high, with a residents' gym and pool and basement parking for cars, motorcycles and bikes.
