Consultation on plans now open
Hammersmith and Fulham Council has begun consulting local residents about its plans to redevelop Fulham Palace and its grounds.
The council’s plans to restore the Palace’s grounds, including the walled garden have been well documented and the council has recently applied to the Heritage Lottery Fund to help meet the cost of this final stage which will complete this restoration project.
The next part of the redevelopment will see the restoration of the Tudor wing of the building to give the public greater access to the Palace.
The council says also on the table are plans to increase the museum space available in order to create an exciting and interactive learning experience which will convey the history of the Palace.
This will enable the council’s renowned collection of 53 Pre-Raphaelite paintings - the Cecil French Bequest - to return to the borough for permanent display to visitors.
Cllr Frances Stainton, cabinet member for parks, culture and heritage, says: "Fulham Palace is an invaluable asset for the residents of Hammersmith and Fulham, both as a beautiful building with picturesque grounds and as a place for the local community to learn about their history.
"The Palace has recently seen the restoration of the Georgian quadrangle and projects to restore the gardens and outbuildings are commencing. However, our aspirations do not stop there ,so make sure that you have your say on this exciting proposal for the final stage to make it truly the jewel in the crown for all to enjoy."
You can have your say until March 16, 2010 by answering an online questionnaire.
