Can You Help Our Local Foodbank Find a New Warehouse?


Urgent call for help to community as current premises are being sold

 

Hammersmith & Fulham Foodbank has issued an urgent message to the local community asking for help finding a new warehouse.

On its website the call for help says: "Our existing warehouse space is being sold and our planned move to another local facility has been withdrawn.  We now URGENTLY need somewhere to move.

"Can you help?"

On the Foodbank's wishlist:

  • 90sq m of space
  • secure ground floor, or secure and reliable access by a goods lift
  • regularly and easily accessible by our own Warehouse Coordinator
  • parking
  • lighting and heating
  • access to running water, loo etc
  • suitable for use by weekly team of food sorting volunteers
  • small or peppercorn rent (or perhaps you could help by providing funding for storage?
  • available for at least one year

The foodbank says food donations are absolutely vital to its ability to give everyone referred to it a balanced and nutritious three day supply of food.

  • TINNED FRUIT
  • TINNED VEGETABLES (SWEETCORN, CARROTS, PEAS ETC)
  • TINNED MEAT - CORNED BEEF, CHICKEN, MINCE, HOT DOGS, TINNED MEAT PIES, ETC
  • BAGS OF RICE (500G OR 1 KG PLEASE - AS PEOPLE HAVE TO CARRY THEM HOME!
  • TINNED RICE PUDDING
  • BREAKFAST CEREALS - NO PORRIDGE PLEASE, WE HAVE PLENTY.
  • SPONGE PUDDING/JELLY/ANGEL DELIGHT ETC ETC - ALL LONG-LIFE PLEASE!
  • INSTANT COFFEE/HOT CHOCOLATE - SMALL JARS PLEASE
  • SPREADS - JAM, PEANUT BUTTER, HONEY


There are collection points across the borough, including Hammersmith Town Hall, libraries and Sainsbury's, Waitrose and Tesco supermarkets.

There is also a collection point within estate agent Willmotts, at 12 Blacks Road, next to the King Street branch of M&S.

QPR in the Community Trust has also strengthened its partnership with the Foodbank and has a foobank collection in at the Family Fan Zone before each weekend home game.

To receive a food package from H&F Foodbank people need a voucher which can picked up from a range of different organisations, including social workers, GPs, the Citizens Advice Bureau and Children’s centres.

The charity has three centres, each in a different part of our borough.

White City Distribution Centre, The Hub @ 75 is at 75 Bloemfontein Road, White City W12 7DA. It is open every week on Mondays, 12.30pm - 3pm; Wednesdays, 10am - 12pm and Saturdays, 10am - 12.pm.

Fulham Distribution Centre, Christ Church Fulham, 67 Studdridge Street, Fulham, SW6 3TD. It is open every week on Tuesday from 10.30am to 1pm and Friday from 2pm to 4.30pm.

Shepherd's Bush Distribution Centre, St Simons, Rockley Road, Shepherds Bush, W14 0DA. It is open every week on Thursday from 1pm to 3pm.
