Free screenings including the Orange Tree Theatre - not just the national names

As the country’s theatres remain closed, arts organisation The Space is supporting cultural venues of all sizes to bring award-winning productions directly to homes.

While its line-up of theatre productions includes high-profile award-winning shows from the likes of the Royal Court, Almeida and Donmar Warehouse, The Space is now bringing a whole series of equally captivating productions from smaller theatre companies to the screen, including our local Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond with it's production of Amsterdam.

Productions screening now include It’s True, It’s True, It’s True by Breach Theatre, Stopgap’s Artificial Things directed by Sophie Fiennes, The Winter’s Tale by Cheek by Jowl, Key Change by Open Clasp Theatre, Windrush by Phoenix Dance and many more.

Line-up includes award-winning dance in a derelict suburban shopping mall, a huge Edinburgh Festival hit, a production created with women in HM Prison Low Newton and a play set on social media and filmed on actors’ phones

It’s True It’s True, It’s True – Breach Theatre
Based on the 1612 trial of Agostino Tassi for the rape of painter Artemisia Gentileschi, this is the story of a woman taking revenge through her art to become one of the most successful painters of her generation. Originally commissioned by New Diorama Theatre, the show was one of the undisputed hits of the 2018 and 2019 Edinburgh Festivals - at the vanguard of the cultural aftershock of the #MeToo movement, which rippled strongly throughout.

Key Change - Open Clasp Theatre Company production
Open Clasp want to ‘Change the World, One Play at a Time’. Devised with women in HMP Low Newton, and based on their real-life experiences, Key Change is a raw, illuminating and funny portrayal of women’s lives in prison and was both winner of The Carol Tambor ‘Best of Edinburgh’ Award and a New York Times Critics’ Pick.

Amsterdam - Orange Tree Theatre
A strikingly original, audacious thriller. An Israeli violinist lives in her trendy canal-side Amsterdam apartment. Nine months pregnant. One day a mysterious unpaid gas bill from 1944 arrives. It awakens unsettling feelings of collective identity, foreignness and alienation. Online until May 23rd.
