Robert Sean Leonard with Paten Hughes in 'Interview'. Picture: Riverside Studios
August 15, 2025
Riverside Studios will host the world premiere of Interview, a new stage adaptation of Theo van Gogh’s 2003 Dutch film. Directed by Teunkie Van Der Sluijs and based on Theodor Holman’s original screenplay, the production explores the shifting dynamics of power, truth, and identity through a single, charged encounter.
Set over the course of one evening, Interview centres on a meeting between Pierre Peters, a once-prominent political journalist, and Katya, a rising movie star with a background in social media. What begins as a routine assignment soon escalates into a psychological contest, as both characters challenge each other’s assumptions and motives. The play interrogates the boundaries between public persona and private reality, and the role of gender in shaping narrative control.
Robert Sean Leonard, known for his roles in Dead Poets Society and the long running US medical drama House, plays Pierre Peters opposite Paten Hughes (Heirloom, A View From the Bridge) as Katya. The production marks Leonard’s return to the London stage and Hughes’ first appearance at Riverside Studios.
Structured as a two-hander, Interview offers a tightly focused exploration of media, manipulation, and the politics of representation. The play runs for five weeks from 23 August to 27 September 2025.
Tickets are available from £25 plus booking fee and can be purchased on the Riverside Studios web site.
