14th May - 30th June 2009
Caroline Forbes' British Landscapes Photography Exhibition
Photographer Caroline Forbes reveals strikingly powerful and evocative images of the British landscape. This work and her portraits of writers and musicians have been shown nationally and internationally at venues including The British Library, The Shaw Theatre, regional Arts Centres in Britain and Northern Ireland and most recently in Minneapolis.
Caroline Forbes was inspired to take up photography by an exhibition of the work of Cartier Bresson in 1970 and started her photography career as a dark room assistant to the photographer Fay Goodwin. During this time she was influenced by Godwin’s landscape work and portraits of writers and she owes her a great debt of gratitude for this training and experience.
She is a highly talented and versatile photographer who over the years has been involved with many publishing companies including Faber and Faber, Harvill, Secker, Penguin, Harper Collins and Atlantic Books and a range of magazines including The Independent, Wire and Gardens Illustrated. Her literary work continues today with work for the National Poetry Archive which was set up by Andrew Motion and Richard Carrington as a national resource for people to listen to poets reading their work.
