Great River Race is Back on The Thames on Saturday 14 September

Watch over 330 crews from around the world sail past our borough

The Great River Race is London's River Marathon - a spectacular boat race up the River Thames, attracting over 330 crews from all over the globe competing over 21.6 Miles from London Docklands to Ham in Surrey.

The race will begin at 9am on Saturday 14 September with the official starter 'firing the maroon' at Millwall riverside in Docklands.

The boats will leave on a 'slowest first, fastest last' handicap basis to give all crews an equal chance. At around 12.30 pm the crews will pass Fulham and under Wandsworth Bridge.

At this point, the best crews in the slower boats will still be leading the field, with the more powerful crews in the faster crafts showing their speed as they move through the field.

The first of the crews are expected to pass under Putney Bridge around 12.40pm, by which time the crews will be two thirds of the way to the end of the race.

At around round 2.30pm the Race winner will cross the line at Ham to a cannon broadside, rousing applause, and the prospect of receiving The Challenge Trophy of The Company of Watermen & Lightermen and becoming the UK Traditional Boat Champions.

The Great River Race appeals to every level of competitor from dedicated athletes who like winning, to those who don fancy dress for charity and it's a great fun day out for both competitors and spectators on our riverbanks and bridges.
