National Sailing Event Taking Place in Hammersmith

London Corinthian Sailing Club hosting Rooster Nationals Sailing Regatta

The London Corinthian Sailing Club is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a very special sailing regatta on the Thames at Hammersmith. The Rooster 8.1 Nationals will be raced on the weekend of 20th and 21st November.

It is very rare for the Nationals of a class of sailing boat to be raced on the river Thames, and there will be entrants from around the country competing in the Regatta. It will offer a spectacular sight for spectators and close racing for competitors.

The Rooster 8.1 is a souped up version of the already powerful Olympic class Laser dinghy. Laser Radial Masters Champion, Steve Cockerill, through his company Rooster Sailing, devised a rig that adds more power to this exciting sailing boat, in which Ben Ainslie won Olympic gold in 2004. Cockerill believes the boat will be perfect for the exciting conditions on the tidal Thames in Hammersmith, where the London Corinthian Sailing
Club is based.

“the extended rig height of the Rooster 8.1 is perfect for river sailing and gives a boost to those who are looking for more fun in light wind sailing,” says Cockerill. “Don't miss out on the spectacle of these larger rigs in strong winds, it’s a sight to behold.”

Commodore of the London Corinthian Sailing Club, Martin Richmond-Coggan, says, “We are delighted to be hosting such a prestigious event on our stretch of the Thames where wind and tide will challenge the best competitors. There will be some very exciting racing”

Racing is 11.10am to 13.00pm on Saturday 20th November and 11.50am to 13.50pm on Sunday 21st November. There will be a series of races run on each day during the periods of high water. The LCSC is based at Linden House, Upper Mall, W6 9TA.

The LCSC has secured sponsorship from the famous nearby Fuller’s brewery for this special event. Competitors and spectators are welcome to our Club.
