Boat Race Fever to Grip Hammersmith

Get the best view and do more than just watch the race

Hammersmith & Fulham Council is inviting residents to events at Bishop's Park and Furnivall Gardens to watch the traditional annual Boat Race

While the crews of Oxford and Cambridge battle it out on the water in the 154th race on March 29, residents will be able to enjoy the atmosphere of the day from some of the best spots on the river: at the starting line at Bishop's Park in Fulham and coming up to the first bend by Furnivall Gardens in Hammersmith.

The free events will run from 1.00pm to 6.30pm and at both parks there will be a refreshments tent, food stalls and a big screen, courtesy of the boat race's official sponsor Xchanging.

Bishop's Park will also host a free family festival, with a children's play area, inflatable assault course, climbing wall and circus skills workshop.

Councillor Paul Bristow, Cabinet Member for Residents' Services, said:
"We want all our residents to enjoy our parks - bring a picnic, a few games and make it a great family day out.' We want people to realise that the borough's green areas are wonderful places to spend their free time."

There are other fantastic vantage points throughout the borough, in particular along the river at Surrey Bend. The heart of the action takes place on Putney Embankment, near Bishop's Park.

Cambridge now leads the overall series by 79-73, with the sides having drawn in a dead heat once in the 1800s.
