A drama raising awareness of child neglect and those who fight to protect them
Barons Court Theatre's new production, Kaspar and The Sea of Houses, opening tonight, 7 February, is a drama which aims to raise awareness of the tragic reality of child neglect and abuse and the powerlessness of those trying to stop it.
This is the first time that Kaspar and the Sea of Houses, written by Felicia Zeller has been presented in the UK.
Directed by Michael Wade and starring Franziska Morai, Ellie Madden and Fiona-Maria Karagiannidou, it features three social workers. Three women drowning in their refusal to admit defeat at the cost of their own sanity.
In 2006, a case of child neglect made the news in Germany after a two year-old boy was found dead in his stepfather's house, hidden in the fridge.
The family support worker assigned to the boy had an average of 240 cases to work on, and the boy, named Kevin simply slipped through the cracks.
Felicia based her play on Kevin's story. Written from the perspectives of three support workers, it gives an insight into their fight against the constant threat of failure.
Kaspar and the Sea of Houses runs till 16 February with the following performances: February 7, 8, 9 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 (7.45 p.m. Sundays 6 p.m.)
