Starting new year with first major work by Spanish writer Fernando Arrabal

Barons Court starts the New Year with what it describes as a startling play: The Tricycle, a strangely light-hearted tale of poverty and murder.

The first major work by Spain's acclaimed writer, Fernando Arrabal, The Tricycle is a perfect example of Spanish Absurd Theatre questioning the limits of freedom and the relationship between our acts and their consequences in a rotten society in which children have to commit sinister acts to survive.

In this dark fairy tale, written in 1952, Climando and his friends try to survive living as homeless persons in an unfair and incomprehensible world, hiring the Tricycle to give rides to children in the park.

What will happen when they cannot afford to pay the rent of the Tricycle?

The Tricycle, suitable for people aged 15 and up is at the Barons Court Theatre, under the Curtains Up pub in Comeragh Road, W14 until 2 February, from Tuesday to Sunday at 7.45pm.
