January at Barons Court Theatre

Presenting evening of nude dance followed by Gilbert & Sullivan classic

Barons Court Theatre is beginning 2018 with two very different events - The Life Drawing Gymnasia, an unusual evening of nude dance movement, followed by a Gilbert & Sullivan classic, The Grand Duke.

Tuesday 9 January – Saturday 13 January at 7pm.

For five nights only, Andrew Crayford and Natasha Jervis, stars of The Life Drawing Gymnasia- a multi-model life art show incorporating interactive dynamic dance, yoga and physical theatre compositions will be bringing their poses to Barons Court, defying gravity and the usual constraints of the human body.

The two and a half hour show (including 20 minute interval) show consists of art nude dance movement and a variety of five -20 minute still dynamic poses set to music for you to draw. Suitable for professional artists and beginners alike, nobody has ever drawn anything like this before anyway. Come and have a go, materials, paper and drawing boards are provided.

THE GRAND DUKE by Gilbert & Sullivan

A Team of nine brave individuals are to present The Grand Duke in the Barons Court Theatre, West London, transporting you to sunny Bavaria where the beer flows freely, the men wear leather shorts, and the sausage rolls are simply the wurst. Ernest Dummkopf’s theatrical troupe are preparing to overthrow the miserly Grand Duke, but run into more political problems than they expected.

This opera is often neglected by Gilbert and Sullivan fans and is rarely attempted by professional companies, but its particular breed of silliness, combined with some of Gilbert’s more developed characters and a sparkling score by Sullivan makes it a favourite of many G&S performers.

Forbear! Theatre approach the operas in a very organic way in order to get the most out of the text and the music. Its r unique blend of opera singers, musical theatre performers, actors and comedians will make this production one not to be missed.
