New version of Shakespeare's play presented for first time in Comeragh Road
Barons Court Theatre is presenting a new version of Shakespeare's Richard III from Monday, 30 October till Sunday 19 November.
The theatre in Comeragh Road say it has staged many Shakespeare productions during the 27 years of its existence. However, due to various factors it has never staged Richard III, probably one of the most exciting and entertaining plays in the Bard's canon.
The theatre, which is in the basement of the Curtains Up pub adds: "This is a pity, as our theatre's flagstone floors, dark arches and stone pillars make the perfect setting for the play.
" At last we can remedy the omission with this unforgettable version of the classic. Practically all of our previous Shakespeare productions have sold out and 'Richard III' is certain to follow suit. What this means is: book your tickets as early as you possibly can."
"And thus I clothe my naked villainy
With odd old ends stolen out of Holy Writ;
And seem a saint, when most I play the devil.”
Vallance Road, the East End, London, 1960s:
The crime is rife, the gangs cruel. The stakes are high, with sleepless nights for all. Behind the rackets – behind the protection – one man’s goal is sovereign election. We know the name, we know the face. That thoughtful, sweet smile will offer nothing but grace. But times are changing. The weather vane will swing. At the end of this harsh brutality, only one can be crowned king.
