The Addison Jazz Choir holding taster session
The Addison Jazz Choir for female voices is looking to recruit new members. It is non-auditioned and strives to perform to a high standard, taking part in concerts locally and in London’s largest choral festival The Brandenburg. They welcome new singers every term.
The Ensemble is conducted by Matthew Hough, an accomplished soloist, choral conductor and vocal coach. They audition for all voice parts and are particularly keen to see Tenors and Basses.
The choir offers a more a more ‘bespoke’ choir experience with the opportunity to perform a diverse range of music, with many original arrangements and accompanied by musicians working in the music industry.
They keep their sound fresh through the talents of their professional staff. Jill Jarman is an accomplished jazz musician and contemporary composer whose work is performed world-wide. This past year has seen several of her commissions performed: a solo cello piece Resonance premiered in Yosemite National Park, a vocal piece St George’s Mass for the group Illustra and the world premiere in Sweden of Mindstream for Dame Evelyn Glennie and Hugo Ticciati.
Since 2004 Jill has set the direction for Addison Jazz, arranging countless songs from across the Jazz canon (Cole Porter), show tunes (Cabaret) more recent iconic songs (‘Hallelujah’, Leonard Cohen) as well as her own compositions (Rain again, Fiesta).
About working with Addison Jazz, Jill says ‘I like the process involved in working with a group of people and bringing out their musicality. Everyone can make music and it is wonderful to see people realising they are sounding great! Addison choir has a lovely mix of people and we all just love singing’.
This terms program is going to be familiar and includes some iconic TV and movie themes. They will have fun with Dr Who and Pink Panther, the unforgettable Diamonds are a Girls’ Best Friend and As Time Goes By along with the more recent and critically acclaimed Fix You (Coldplay). Jill is ...’particularly looking forward to Howard Goodall’s The Lord is my Shepherd ... used for the theme to Vicar of Dibley!’
