Venue with space for 600 videogame fans opens next month
The UK's first eSports arena is opening in Fulham Broadway in March.
The arena is being created through a deal between eSports business Gfinity and cinema chain Vue Entertainment and will see part of the Vue Fulham Broadway multiplex transformed into a dedicated 600 capacity eSports venue, to be named the Gfinity Arena.
The arena will have its own entrances and ticketing hall leading to three stages with seating for 600 gaming fans. It is scheduled to open within Fulham Broadway shopping centre next month in time for the start of the 2015 Gfinity Championships and will offer 25 events running through till September.
eSports, or competitive gaming is a term for organised multiplayer video game competitions. Gfinity says live tournaments will be hosted in the arena every weekend and on selected weekday evenings, building on the huge success of last year’s G3, the UK’s biggest ever eSports event, which saw around 4,000 spectators visit the Copperbox Arena in London’s Olympic Park.
Gfinity says: "
As the home of eSports, this is also the place for gamers to socialise with friends, get to grips with the hottest game releases, grab a sneak peek at forthcoming titles and compete in events run throughout the week. We’ll also be bringing you the opportunity to watch major events from Activision, Blizzard, Valve, Riot, and others throughout the year."
All of the events will also be available to view online at Gfinity's website.
This new addition is also a major boost for Fulham Broadway itself, as it is expected to bring thousands of new visitors who will also visit its shops and restaurants.
