Chelsea and Fulham Top Nuts’ Awards

London neighbours clean up the major prizes in readers’ awards

Fulham and Chelsea have topped the polls in this year’s eagerly awaited Nuts’ Football Awards, with over two hundred thousand readers voting for their favourite clubs and players.

There was consolation for Fulham, who lost to Atletico Madrid in the final thrilling minutes  of Wednesday's Europa League Final in Hamburg, in the shape of the Team of the Season gong, with fans across the country applauding the club’s fantastic performances in knocking out a succession of major clubs.

Completing a great result for the London club, Fulham boss, Roy Hodgson, takes the Manager of the Season award.

London neighbours, Chelsea, picked up the other big prize with Didier Drogba pictured right, named Player of the Year. It’s the second time the Ivory Coast international has won the award, having triumphed in 2007 and it caps off a great season for the star striker who is currently the Premiership’s joint top goal scorer.

Chelsea’s second award was also no surprise with John Terry and Ashley Cole picking up the Outstanding Contribution toOff-Pitch Shenanigans award!

The troublesome pair has barely been out of the tabloids all year with Terry dropped as England captain as a result of his extra-curricular activities and Cole now being divorced by Cheryl Cole.

The Nuts Football Awards are different from the usual sporting awards that are voted by an industry panel. Celebrating the talk of the terraces, over 200,000 fans have voted on all aspects of the beautiful game from the ‘Dodgiest Barnet’ to 'Goal of the Season' - these awards are the silverware that every player wants in their cabinet.
