Hammersmith Flyover To Be Closed For Three Weekends
Westbound carriage way to be shut during April
Transport for London (TfL) have announced that three weekend closures of the westbound carriageway of the flyover will take place on the 10-13 April, 17-20 April and 24-27 April.
During the closures, which will be from 10:30pm on Friday until 5am on Monday morning at the latest, affected traffic will be diverted via the road network beneath the flyover and the A40 Western Avenue.
According to TfL the repairs have been carefully designed to be carried out in the shortest timeframe possible, helping to keep road disruption to a minimum. The work has also been coordinated around other planned work in the local area, including the forthcoming construction of the East-West Cycle Superhighway in central London, which begins in April.
TfL say they are currently in the process of replacing the movement bearings for the Hammersmith Flyover and have completed 37 of the 60 planned lifts needed to enable these works and intend to carry out further lifts in April.
During these night-time closures apart from the weekend ones in April, traffic will not be able to travel over the flyover in either direction. The works during each lift should be completed during the course of one night. However, due to the complexity of the work, they may need to close the flyover for up to two nights for each lifting operation. If this happens, they will reopen the flyover during the day between the overnight works.
Traffic using the A4 Hammersmith flyover, travelling to and from central London, will be diverted from Earl’s Court to the A40 and then onto A406 to join the A4/M4 at Chiswick Roundabout. Diversion routes will be signed during the works and local access below the flyover will not be

Tfl say that drivers who would ordinarily use the flyover should follow the signed diversion via the A40. Research during previous closures of the flyover showed that drivers using the signed diversion via the A40 experienced less delay than those travelling on the A4 Great West Road through the Hammersmith gyratory.
