Hammersmith Flyover Free of Weekend Closures

TfL announces works completed in advance of schedule

Transport for London has issued the following information on the weekend closures of the Hammersmith flyover:

" Following excellent progress with recent improvement work, we no longer require the three remaining scheduled weekend closures of the westbound Hammersmith flyover. This means that it will be open as normal this weekend.

We will continue to carry out work on the structure at other times, primarily overnight so that traffic restrictions are minimised to reduce disruption to road users and local residents."

Assembly Member for Merton & Wandsworth, Richard Tracey welcomed the news:
“ This is brilliant news especially with all the serious works going on at Putney Bridge and Hogarth Flyover.”

Putney Bridge
TfL reminds residents, that Putney Bridge is now closed until October. This is while essential repair work is carried out by Wandsworth Council. Buses will operate services from both ends of the bridge and if your bus normally crosses the bridge, you will need to get off the bus and cross to the other side to continue your journey.

Hogarth Flyover

TfL is reminding drivers to plan ahead as essential work to the Hogarth Flyover in west London begins this weekend (19 July) as part of a continuing programme of roads modernisation across London.

Hogarth Flyover is nearly 50 years old and now requires essential maintenance work to ensure it continues to serve the area for the next 20 to 30 years. If the work is not done soon, then the structure may become unsafe, which would require TfL to close the flyover at very short notice.

From 19 July until 31 August, the single lane eastbound only flyover, which carries traffic from the A316 onto the A4 Great West Road, will be closed to traffic to allow engineers to replace the deck, repair parapets steelwork, and improve lighting on the slip road. The essential refurbishment works have been phased and coordinated to take place during the summer when traffic levels are significantly lower, helping to reduce the impact on road users. During the work, road users are advised to plan ahead and allow more time to complete their journeys, or where possible, to change route to avoid any disruption - especially when travelling during the busiest times (07:00-09:00 & 16:00-19:00 weekdays and 10:00-18:00 at weekends).
