Ealing Schools Celebrate Excellent A Level Results

Record breaking performances from local sixth formers

The recently announced AS and A Level results have included some excellent performances from local schools despite an overall decline in grades nationally.

At St. Benedict’s School, in their first fully coeducational year, at A Level the percentage of both A* (10%) and A*-A grades (37.6%) was higher than in 2014, with a total pass rate of 99.4%. 18 students achieved three or more grade A*/A grades, 32 students achieved at least 2As and a B while 47 students gained an A grade and two Bs or equivalent.

Top performers were Daniel Makhoul, Anthony Sa’id and Vasilije Spaic with three A* grades each and a further five students gained 2A*s and at least one A grade: Assisi Azzopardi, Madeline Brooking, Tristan Byrne, Sam Lewis and Stelios Souvaliotis.

In the last year of AS exams the Lower Sixth also performed well. The percentage of A grades was the highest ever at 33.8% and the A/B grades were also up on 2014 and the second highest in history. A fifth of the year achieved at least 3 A grades.

Headmaster Chris Cleugh said: “I am delighted that our percentage of the top grades is up on last year. I congratulate our students who have worked hard to achieve these excellent results and I thank the teaching staff for their professionalism and dedication.”

St Augustine’s Priory, saw a 100% pass rate at A Level. With a variety of university destinations including UCL and Warwick their students are heading off to study subjects such as Economics, Politics and History & Sociology. At AS Level there were outstanding with a high number of A grades in subjects including Drama, Economics, History and Government & Politics. Several students have achieved 100% in their units in subjects such as Mathematics, English Literature and Creative Writing. In addition, in the Cambridge iGCSE results announced on 11th August their English Literature candidates achieved 89% grades A* to B and for English Language achieved 100% grades A* to C.

Girls and St. Augustine's celebrate their results

At Elthorne Park High school students achieved A*-A and almost 80% achieved A*-C or BTEC equivalent.

The top A Level performance was that of Fahad Chohan who achieved A* in both mathematics and further mathematics with a further two more A grades in chemistry and physics. He will be heading to his first choice university of UCL to read physics.

The highest achieving BTEC student was Ben Logue who also studied A Level Biology alongside BTEC Sport and achieved the highest possible grade D*D*D*. Ben has gone on to study Sport and Exercise Science at University of Birmingham. Ben was not the only one. Twelve other students achieved the highest possible BTEC grade of D*D*D* too.

I am so proud of all our students”

At Notting Hill and Ealing High School 87% of entries were awarded A*-B making 2015 another extremely successfully year with all of the sixth form girls leaving with 3 or more A Levels. 43% of girls have 3 or more A or A* grades.

24% of entries were awarded the top A* grade (the national average is 8%) and 19% of girls achieved 2 or more A* grades.

Headteacher Lucinda Hunt said, “I’m thrilled for all the girls who will be setting off to study the course of their dreams, so many of them at Russell group universities. I am also particularly proud of those girls who struggled at times in their school career, either academically or with difficult personal problems, but who worked so hard, listened to advice and made the most of everything we can offer them here, and are now all set for the next exciting phase in their lives.“

Ealing Independent College managed their best A-Level Results ever with a 32% of the grades awarded being A*/A, and 60% of the grades awarded being A*/B.

Principal, Dr Ian Moores, said, “I am delighted to report that it has been an exceptional year for our A-Level students. My dedicated staff, the industry of the students, and the approach that we take at the College enabled students to reach their goals and in many cases surpass all expectations. A third of the grades achieved were A*/A – a truly outstanding achievement.”

25% of the students at the College achieved AAB or better, and there were many exceptional individual performances.
