Centre in the top-performing 10% of businesses world-wide

The global website is a platform for people to write reviews and give ratings to businesses including hotels, restaurants and attractions. The excellence award is given to businesses that consistently achieve outstanding reviews on the website. To qualify, businesses must maintain an overall rating of four or higher, out of a possible five, as reviewed by travellers on TripAdvisor. Judges also consider the volume of reviews within the last 12 months.

A TripAdvisor spokesman said:
“TripAdvisor is delighted to recognise WWT London Wetland Centre with a 2013 Certificate of Excellence. This prestigious award, which places you in the top-performing 10% of all businesses worldwide on TripAdvisor, is given to businesses that consistently earn high ratings from TripAdvisor travellers. ”

Popular new initiatives at the Centre in the last couple of years have included the addition of a welcoming new birdwatching hide, designed with beginner wildlife watchers in mind. The Headley Discovery Hide is equipped with full length picture windows, comfy seating, and fixed binoculars and telescopes. An otter enclosure was opened in 2012 which has proved extremely popular with visitors who enjoy watching the antics of the otter family. The exhibit highlights the successful conservation initiatives since the 1980s which have resulted in the return of European otters to every county in Britain.

General Manager at WWT London Wetland Centre, Richard Myers, said:
“We’re delighted to receive this award which reflects the hard work of the staff and volunteers at the Centre. It is wonderful to see that our efforts to provide Londoners with a fantastic day out have paid off and that our visitors are really enjoying their experience here.”

“Bigger than expected; possible to walk away from crowds; good mix of habitat; good for children; plenty to see; could spend many hours here. /Even if raining does not matter, plenty of ducks and waders will be pottering around. Pond life worth seeing on their own. Take good shoes/boots and a fold up mac. “

A little bit of calm in the bustle of London Town
Reviewed 22 April 2013
“This is the second visit to WWT London and once again I was amazed at how peaceful it is there. There are fantastic areas for kids to explore. Pond life, woodland as well as all the fantastic birds and wildlife that is there. For a birder it is like an oasis in what otherwise would be a sea of pigeons and Gulls. The hides all all well appointed with the newest one being great for seasoned birders to kids with a passing interest. If you’re in The Smoke and fancy a day away from the hustle and bustle of the city come to Barnes and let you mind float away on a bed of birdsong and fresh air.”
