Neville Manuel appointed new non-executive director
West London Mental Health Trust is pleased to announce that Neville Manuel, a senior executive with experience of devising and implementing commercial strategies, has been successfully appointed as a Non-Executive Director of the Trust.
Trust Chairman, Nigel McCorkell says: “I am delighted to welcome Neville Manuel to the Board. I believe that, particularly in the context of some of the financial and market-related challenges we face as a Trust, and in light of our intention to become a Foundation trust within the next 18 months, his expertise brings significant value to our leadership team. I look forward to welcoming him to the team.”
Neville has 30 years experience operating in senior and non executive board roles in British Telecom (BT) and BT Joint Ventures partners. As a skilled commercial leader, he has a proven track record of formulating strategy, negotiating large partnership agreements, service development and improvement and managing organisational change.
Starting 1 September 2010 on a four year term, Neville’s appointment was made by the Appointments Commission in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments’ Code of Practice and the honorarium for this role stands at £6,096 per annum. Non-executive directors have a duty to bring an independent judgment to bear on Trust business and are expected to observe the highest standards of personal honesty and integrity. Non-executive directors are expected to subscribe to best practice stipulated in ‘Codes of Conduct and Accountability in the NHS’.
All non-executive appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Neville Manuel has no political activity, nor does he hold any other Ministerial positions.
Neville replaces Lisa Harrington, who has recently stepped down from her position as a Non-Executive Director due to other commitments. Chairman, Nigel McCorkell says: “Lisa has played an important part in the development of systems and processes to enhance the management and delivery of major work programs within the Trust. We thank Lisa for her valuable contributions.”
