Westfield say 160,000 people visited the new shopping centre in Shepherd's Bush on its very first day of trading.
The centre, which had been under construction for five years, was open from 9am to 10pm on Thursday (October 30).
Westfield say retailers reported positive footfall and sales figures with many favourably comparing activity to that in their established London stores.
Westfield London was busier than they had expected on day one, according to many retailers.
Some reported sales targets being exceeded, and a positive mood among their staff and customers.
A spokesperson from Westfield said: “We are delighted with the opening day's trade. The response from shoppers and retailers has been excellent and we are all looking forward to a great weekend.”
