Westfield to Expand on Adjacent Land


Announcement follows "exceptional" sales in 2010

When you have finished editing this page don't press publish. Westfield Shopping Centre is set to expand. with plans for a new £6 million extension planned on an adjacent site.

The news comes in the latest report from the centre's Australian parent company the Westfield Group, which says the Shepherd's Bush centre performed "exceptionally well" in 2010, its second year of operation, with total sales in 2010 of £870 million, a rise of almost a quarter on 2009.

“We are extremely pleased with the performance of Westfield London and its strong growth year on year since opening just over two years ago.

" Demand for space continues to be strong and we are now planning Westfield London’s next stage of development and
expansion, " said Managing Director Steven Lowy.

The company is reportedly negotiating with department store John Lewis to take a major space in the new Westfield extension.

It is expected to apply for planning permission later this year, at around the same time it launches its second London centre in Stratford, close to the Olympic Park.
