Uber Boats Starts Weekend Service at Local Piers

Putney, Wandsworth Riverside and Chelsea Harbour added to the timetable

The service previously only served local piers during the week

Uber Boats by Thames Clipper commenced a weekend service at local piers from this Saturday (29 July).

Last year, over 1,500 signed a petition calling for a service to Putney and Wandsworth.

The new timetable has incorporated stops on route RB2 in the West Zone including Chelsea Harbour, Wandsworth Riverside Quarter and Putney piers.

The company says this will enable it to support additional demand over the summer on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays and that it is the first step towards a daily-off peak service to the West Zone, coming later this year.

The RB2 will continue to run every 30 minutes between North Greenwich and Battersea Station piers but now one out of two RB2 sailings will run hourly between North Greenwich and Putney piers stopping also at Greenwich, Greenland (Surrey Quays), Canary Wharf, Tower, London Bridge City, Bankside, Embankment, Millbank, Vauxhall (St George Wharf), Battersea Power Station, Chelsea Harbour and Wandsworth Riverside Quarter piers.

The last two Westbound sailings and the last four Eastbound sailings will also stop at Masthouse Terrace Pier. Only sailings terminating at Battersea Power Station will call at Westminster Pier.

There have also been some other minor changes to the timetable changes including the RB6 Eastbound. The current 17:06 and 20:13 from Putney Pier will have departures amended by 2 to 3 minutes. The current 20:45 from Putney Pier will now depart at 21:00 and will no longer stop at Westminster, Tower and Greenland (Surrey Quays) piers. The current 21:08 from Putney Pier will now depart at 21:25 and will no longer stop at Plantation Wharf, London Bridge City, Tower, Greenland (Surrey Quays) and Masthouse Terrace piers.

The company has gained planning permission for a new pier at Putney which it said was required to meet growing demand.

Geoff Symonds, COO at Uber Boat by Thames Clippers, "The new weekend service is just the start of off-peak services to Putney and Wandsworth. We still very much plan to build the new pier as the current pier is close to the end of its operational life.

"The new pier will ensure service continuity in years to come and allow for more frequent services. Our target to complete the new pier is by 2025.

"Currently our design team is progressing the detailed design for the pier working with Thames Tideway (which has yet to complete its works and handover the new pier site to Thames Water), Wandsworth Council and the PLA to discharge the conditions attached to the pier planning consent.”
