24 Hour Strike on Central Line Underway

More disruption for travellers with no service today and no Night Tube

A 24 hour strike by ASLEF train drivers is causing more mirsery and disruption for travellers on Friday, 5 October.

The strike, which is also affecting the Waterloo & City line, began shortly after midnight and will continue throughout the day. There will also be no service on tonight's Central Night Night Tube.

Union leaders say this is due to a "breakdown of industrial relations" in a long-running dispute with the London Underground, or LU, blaming Tube bosses for imposing "unsafe" working practices.

ASLEF's organiser Finn Brennan said: "We have, reluctantly, decided this is our only course of action."

A second strike by drivers is planned for November 7.

The latest wave of industrial action follows a series of strikes by Piccadilly line drivers last week.

Nigel Holness for London Underground said the potential strike action would also see the Waterloo and City Line closed for the entire day because it is operated by the same group of drivers.

He said: "We are meeting with ASLEF leadership to try to work with them to avoid this strike action and I urge them to continue these positive discussions so that Londoners don't experience disruption this week."

TfL says its Travel Ambassadors will be at key locations throughout the day to provide travel information and advice to customers affected by the action.
