Severe Disruption Ahead on South West Trains
Reduced service during August due to Waterloo platform extension work
Green - times changed but frequency mostly unaffected
Yellow - busier than usual with fewer services
Orange - extremely busy with significantly fewer trains
Red - closed for some or all of this period
A prolonged period of engineering works means that South West Trains services out of Waterloo will be operating a reduced service for most of August. There is expected to be a significant negative impact for passengers.
Between 5 and 28 August there will be fewer trains as work takes place to extend platforms at London Waterloo station. This is being done to accommodate the new longer 10-carriage trains which came into service last year.
Stations that will be effected include Wandsworth Town, Putney, Barnes, Wimbledon, Chiswick, Kew Bridge, Brentford, Syon Park and Isleworth.
It is expected that services and stations will be much busier than usual and queueing systems may have to be introduced at some stations.
South West Trains are asking their customers to:
• Avoid Vauxhall rail station, which will be partially closed, and travel from Waterloo instead
• Avoid Clapham Junction rail station 06:45-09:30 and 17:00-19:30
• Avoid Wimbledon rail station 07:30-09:30 and 17:00-19:00
• Avoid Waterloo rail station 17:00-18:45
If you usually change at Clapham Junction or Vauxhall, South West Trains advise you not to do so, and to travel via London Waterloo instead.
There will also be a further significant reduction in service on Friday 25 August and across the August Bank Holiday weekend.
There is likely to be a knock on effect on London Underground services and journeys may take longer.
TfL say their services in southwest London will be much busier than usual between 07:30-10:00 on weekdays and again in the evening rush hour and it may take longer to board trains at the south end of the District and Northern lines at these times. Buses serving Wimbledon, Earlsfield, Richmond, Clapham Junction and Vauxhall will also be busier than usual
