Brook Green based Song Academy runs contest for fourth year

The search has begun to find the best young songwriter of 2015.

Now in its fourth year, The Young Songwriter Competition, open to youngster aged from seven to 18, is run by The Song Academy, based in Brook Green, which runs workshops for young songwriters.

Singer/songwriter Tom Odell, who was behind the song Real Love used in the John Lewis Christmas advert, and Shahid Khan, the musician, record producer and songwriter aka Naughty Boy, will be among the judges.

Tom says: " When I was 13 years old I started writing songs, and over the following years I became more and more obsessed with it. But the thing that always kept me awake at night was how to get them out there for people to hear them.

" This is why I think the Song Academy Young Songwriter competition is a great way to inspire and help through this process, and it’s something I wish had been around when I was starting out. I can’t wait to hear the songs!"

The judges have written and produced songs for household names, such as Tom Jones, Adele and One Direction.

The competition is open to young people across the UK and Ireland and is split into two categories, seven to 12-year-olds and 13 to 18-year-olds.

Entrants don’t need professional recordings as they will be judged on their originality, lyrics, melody, composition, and their potential to be a smash hit.

Songs can be easily recorded/uploaded with the smart AudioBoom app via the Song Academy website.

Each entrant may enter up to three songs and the deadline to take part in the free competition is April 6, 2015.
