Beats ten finalists to win H&F trophy
Keith Shepherd, Head Chef at Latymer Upper School in Hammersmith, has been crowned Hammersmith and Fulham Canteen Chef of the Year. Keith was presented with the trophy on Wednesday after the cook-off at the TASTE restaurant at Hammersmith and West London College.
There were ten finalists in the competition, and for the final, they all had to prepare and cook two dishes in an hour, before facing the panel of judges who judged their dishes on appearance, aroma, texture and taste. The judges were Mitzi Wilson, former editor of “Delicious” magazine, Mark Clements, Senior Lecturer at Hammersmith and West London College, Gerry Baker of the newly opened Wholefoods store in Kensington High Street and last year’s winner, Jacky Levievre, the Chef at the Butcher’s Hook gastro pub in Fulham. Together with the prestigious title, Keith won vouchers for £1000 of kitchen equipment for the School
Speaking after Keith returned to Latymer with his trophy, Peter Winter the Head said: “We are all delighted at Keith’s success. This is a great achievement and everyone at Latymer is very proud of Keith. Pupils and staff enjoy excellent food every day at Latymer and now we know just how good it is – not least as another of our Chefs, Marcia Bowes, was named Best School Cook in the Best School Dinner in Britain Awards in 2004.”
