Pupils from 16 schools across the borough took part in a concert with singers from one of the country’s best choirs last week.

More than 400 eight to 12 year olds sang alongside members of the BBC Singers at Hammersmith Town Hall on 28th June, in a performance organised by Hounslow Music Service.

The performance of Playing with Dreams by Alan Simmons was narrated by the actor Richard Walsh, who played Sicknote in the London’s Burning TV series.

A number of the school took part thanks to one of the music service’s wider opportunities projects that gives pupils free access to specialist instrumental tuition through teaching much larger groups of pupils.

Cllr Dr Robert Kinghorn, Executive Member for Education and Children’s Services at Hounslow Council, said "Performing alongside internationally recognised musicians is an amazing opportunity for these children, and reflects their hard work and ability. I am sure that their families are proud of the children involved.

“I know from personal experience that a love of music stays with you for life, and encouraging children to learn about styles they wouldn’t normally hear on the radio helps them explore new experiences and develop their creativity.”

The piece follows the story of A Midsummer Night’s Dream through a range of musical styles and also featured soloists from local schools.

Local schools which took part in the performances were Belmont Primary, Grove Park Primary, St Mary's RC Primary and Strand on the Green Junior.
