Children from seven local schools sing up on Sunday
Children from seven primary schools across Hammersmith and Fulham will be singing up on Sunday, September 6 at a BBC Proms Plus event at the Royal College of Music.
The free concert, at 4.45 pm is presented by Sing Up, the National Singing Programme which aims to put singing at the heart of primary school-aged children's lives.
The children will be performing as part of the London Oratory Choir, which belongs to the Sing Up Chorister Outreach Programme. It is one of the UK's leading boys' choirs and has appeared on soundtracks for The Golden Compass, Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings.
The choir will perform at the Proms Plus concert with children from seven of its partner primary schools in Hammersmith and Fulham - St Augustine's Catholic Primary School, St John's CofE Walham Green Primary School, Holy Cross Catholic Primary School, St Peter's CofE Primary School, St Stephen's CofE Primary School, St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Primary School and St Mary's Catholic Primary School.
They will be joined by the East London Partnership Choir, which consists of two choirs, Solid Harmony and Gallions Primary School. The choirs are both part of the new Sing Up London Community.
Sing Up communities aim to place singing at the heart of communities across the country; projects run for two years with the goal of reaching more than 2,000 children, with primary-aged children as the central focus.
The choirs will perform an eclectic mix of songs from across the globe at the Proms Plus event, which is open to the public.
Howard Goodall, the Government's Singing Ambassador and one of Britain's most distinguished and versatile composers, will co-host the 45-minute Proms Plus concert.
