A contemporary music academy in West Kensington is to receive a donation from Ed Sheeran to support classes for disadvantaged youngsters.

The singer’s charitable foundation is providing support for The Rhythm Studio Foundation’s Primary Schools Workshop Programme for the next three years.

The financial backing follows a visit made by Ed Sheeran to the school last May. He surprised pupils from Addison Primary School, popping in to see them while they were taking part in the Foundation's schools programme.

He also took to the stage to play some of his songs, including Castle On The Hill and Perfect, to sixth formers and staff at the studio.

Mr Sheeran commented, "I want kids to have the opportunity to learn instruments, explore production and songwriting, perform, and access apprenticeship schemes that equip them with the skills needed to enter the industry."

The Rhythm Studio Foundation is the charitable arm of The Rhythm Studio music school, which is based in Gliddon Road, W14.

Their Primary Schools Workshop Programme helps 8-11 year-olds in London state primary schools, with only limited access to music education. Half of these schools are in the 20 most deprived areas in London.

The school says that about 1,800 students will get to create and perform music using professional studios, equipment, and teaching.
