Collection service returns for another year
Ealing Council has announced that its summer garden waste collection will resume on Monday 5th April.
The fortnightly service was launched last year and proved to be a success with residents ordering more than 144,000 bags. It will continue to run until December.
The pink bags, which break down during the composting process, are available at 50p each including post and packaging by calling ECT Recycling on 020 8813 3193/4 or visiting the website www.ectrecycling.co.uk/ealing. (collection dates will be given to residents when they call)
The council is committed to increasing recycling rates in the borough, and the garden waste scheme prevents the waste being sent to landfill sites. Last year 370 tonnes of green waste were diverted from landfill through this scheme – a high figure considering it was a very dry summer.
1) In 2004 the scheme will run from April to December.
2) The council will collect grass and hedge cuttings, plants, leaves, flowers and twigs and turn them into compost.
3) Garden waste can also be recycled for free at the Waste and Recycling Centres at Greenford Road, Stirling Road and Gordon Road.
