As the 2005/06 NHS performances results are announced
The Healthcare Commission published performance ratings for all NHS organisations this week. Hammersmith and Fulham Primary Care Trust has been given an overall rating of fair – the same as the majority of PCTs in the country.
This year’s performance ratings are the most comprehensive assessment of NHS organisations to date, including a number of additional targets and assessments which were not part of the previous star rating system. The overall result is simplified into two ratings; one for quality of services and one for financial performance (use of resources). The PCT was rated as fair in both areas (on a scale of weak, fair, good, excellent).
The rating puts the PCT at the same level as the majority of PCTs in London and the South East – 79% of which were rated fair on quality and 49% on use of resources.
Chief Executive, Chris Butler, said: “There are many positive results within the ratings. We’ve declared full compliance with the core standards, which assure people we’re providing safe and effective care. Our work on helping people to stop smoking has been rated as excellent and we have met the majority of key targets including waiting times for GP appointments, hospital treatment and returning home after
hospital care.”
“It’s important to remember that these results reflect performance last year. Of the handful of targets we missed most have already seen improvements and I believe the PCT will be able to improve its rating at the end of this year.”
The results of a second performance review were also published this week. Called Fit for Purpose, this review looked at the strength of PCTs’ management functions and their ability to meet targets in the year ahead. Hammersmith and Fulham scored well in this review with no areas identified as being substandard or requiring significant development.
