138 GCSE candidates celebrate record results

138 GCSE candidates at Latymer Upper School in Hammersmith are today celebrating record results which, even by the School’s already high standards, are truly outstanding.

94% of grades were at A*/A, with over 73% of those being A*. Well over half the year group (89 pupils) achieved a string of 8 or more A*s, and over three quarters of the year group achieved at least 5A*s.

In key subjects such as Mathematics pupils achieved 113 A*s (82% of the year group) and in English and English Literature over pupils 100 achieved A*s. 84% of pupils who took three Separate Sciences achieved A.

Rose Margolis pictured left with her mum, from Fulham, will also be celebrating her 16th birthday today as well as 8A*, 1A.

Head David Goodhew says: "In September, during my first assembly at Latymer, I challenged Year 11 to improve on last year's record GCSE results, and my goodness they have risen to the challenge! Three quarters of grades are A*, and over a quarter of the year have achieved at least 10 A* grades, setting a new record. I am thrilled for the pupils and their parents, who are quite rightly delighted. Their hard work and talent, combined with inspirational and dedicated teaching, have been the perfect recipe for success. I am especially pleased that they have achieved such academic excellence without sacrificing their participation and enjoyment in sport, music and drama."

The girls at Godolphin and Latymer School also have reasons to celebrate, with an outstanding 67% of all exams taken awarded an A* grade (compared with 62% last year), and three quarters of the girls achieved A*/A grades in all their subjects.
