Armadillo Declared Officially Dead as Alternative Unveiled

Planning forum at Town Hall on Tuesday, March 23

The Armadillo, the controversial building which was to be built at the foot of Hammersmith Grove, is officially dead, and alternative plans for the site will be unveiled at a forum on Tuesday, March 23 at Hammersmith Town Hall.

At the forum, property developer Development Securities and London Underground will jointly submit alternative regeneration proposals for the site on the corner of  Beadon Road and Hammersmith Grove, currently used as an NCP car park.

The new plans comprise two buildings with restaurants and shops at ground floor level, and offices on the upper floors.

The proposals maintain the pedestrian crossing on Beadon Road but unlike the previous scheme, there are no longer plans to narrow Hammersmith Grove.

Unlike plans for the Armadillo, which were granted planning permission in 2007, but which ground to a halt in the aftermatch of the credit crunch the following year, this new scheme will not include a cinema.

The forum begins at 7pm in the Town Hall's Courtyard Room, offering local people the opportunity to hear about the plans for this town centre site and to comment on them before detailed plans are prepared and a planning application if submitted.
