£3.5million Shepherd's Bush Green makeover is going ahead

Head to West 12 Centre to see plans for spruced up Green.

An exhibition opens today (June 12) to give Hammersmith and Fulham residents a chance to see how work on Shepherd's Bush Green is progressing.

A £3million refurbishment is planned, paid for by developer contributions from the Westfield White City Shopping Centre.

The exhibition will be held at the West 12 Shopping Leisure Centre on the Broadway. It will give people a chance to see a detailed layout for the whole of the Green, and look at important elements of the design such as the play area for children, the new cafe and the open air plaza at the eastern end of the green.

People will also be able to look at comments made in the last consultation about plans for the green, and see how the design has been adapted to take into account residents' concerns.

For example, the architects have put in place plans to plant longer grasses and wild flowers to increase the overall grass areas, cycleways which are diverted away from pedestrian crossings to avoid conflict between cyclists and pedestrians and have added CCTV cameras which will provide full coverage of the common.

However, it remains to be seen how architects will address the concerns of dog owners, who rated the provision for dogs as 'very poor' in the last consultation.

The project is part of Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s ParkLife campaign to improve the borough’s numerous parks and open spaces and encourage residents to enjoy these green spaces.

Hammermith and Fulham Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services, Councillor Paul Bristow, said: “This project will benefit the whole of the community, breathing new life into a green space that needs regenerating. The plans look fantastic and I’m sure that once residents see the new designs, they will start to get as excited as I am about it.”

The new designs will describe in detail the layout for the whole of the Green and show for example, what the play areas will look like, and what type of benches and lighting will be used and where they will be placed.

The exhibition begins on Thursday June 12 and runs until Wednesday 18 June. A design team led by Whitelaw Turkington landscape architects and council officers will be on hand to answer any questions on the opening day from 9am to 5pm and Saturday June 14 from 9am to 3pm
