A Fulham woman is considering legal action against a Putney based pet care company after her dog was killed after escaping from their enclosure.

36-year-old Andrea Pothier told the MailOnline that her labradoodle puppy ran away on his trial day on 6 March at the enclosure run by the City Paws Club firm in Chessington.

Ghost, who was five months old at the time, was found dead ten days later dead by the side of the A3 by a passing motorist not far from the enclosure.

Ms Pothier claims that Ghost bolted through open gates and that she was not informed by the company until he had been missing for over two and half hours. She went to the centre but daylight was limited and they were unable to find him. She continued the search for ten days with her partner and members of the public.

City Paws Club owner and founder Matt Boyce apologised to Ms Pothier in an email saying, 'On this occasion we let you all down, we had safety measures in place for new dogs in our daycare that were not followed through on.

'Whilst we did not expect Ghost to react the way he did, preventable measures should have been taken to ensure he was not able to exit over our perimeter fence. The normal procedure would be to put Ghost on a lead. Due to the difficulty our team experienced in the main enclosure, they tried to encourage him out of the gate door, but Ghost was too quick for our team member to react. This led to Ghost moving to the car parking area, becoming nervous and then jumping over a fence and running away.'

He added that the company would be conducting a full investigation into the event which led to Ghost escaping and that a full report would be available to Ms Pothier.
