Thames Water has issued an update on Wednesday evening, 31 January saying that customers who have been without water following the burst water main on Goldhawk Road should see it slowly coming back. For those still without water, free distribution points have been set up.

The update says: " Following the mains burst in Goldhawk Road, Shepherd's Bush, our engineers are slowly returning supply to the area. This means customers who have had no water or low pressure will see it start to come back on.

"For those customers still without water, we have bottled water now available at the two distribution points: Woodmans Mews, W12 0HU, close to Burlington Danes Academy in White City and Burn Jones House,W14 8TA, off North End Road.

"We really apologise for the inconvenience this is causing, and are doing everything possible to resolve the situation as quickly as possible."

Hammersmith & Fulham Council has also issued an evening update, saying:"Thames Water is now returning the supply to the area and affected properties are starting to see their water come back on. The flooding on Goldhawk Road has been receding.

"Bottled water is available for anyone who needs it. Locations are: Goldhawk Road (junction with Hammersmith Grove, and both ends where the cordon ends), Hammersmith Town Hall and White City community centre.

"An information centre is open at Edward Woods community centre, 60 Norland Road, W11 4TX.

"If you have problems with your water supply please contact Thames Water on 0800 316 9800 @thameswater.

"Vulnerable residents are being contacted individually to make sure they have everything they need."

Thousands of homes across west London were left without water or low water pressure from this morning (31 January) after another water main burst in Shepherd’s Bush. Apart from the local area, the water supply is being affected in Chiswick, Acton and Hammersmith.

Goldhawk Road was hit by serious flooding with parts of it totally submerged and was closed in both directions with no indication as to when it will reopen.

This was the scene this morning, in a photo tweeted @charecroft by Charecroft TRA.

Thames Water has tweeted updates @thamewater throughout the day, saying: "Our engineers have been on site in #ShepherdsBush since the early hours of the morning. We've identified the issue and are now reducing the flow of water to stop the flooding and will begin the repair as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.

"We have a team of engineers working on the burst water main on Goldhawk Road - we’ve partially closed off the road and it’s advisable to find alternative routes if possible.

"For any customers in #shepherdsbush impacted by the mains burst and who have water in your properties, for safety reasons please turn off and unplug your appliances and lights. We are doing everything possible to contain the flood water.

"We’ve sent tankers to pump more water into the network to help water supply in the area and will have everything returned to normal as soon as possible."

Earlier Thames Water's website state: " We're sorry for customers without water or having low pressure this morning. There is a mains burst in Goldhawk Road W12. This may affect a large area with pressure issues including W3, W4, W6 and W12. We are on site now and will post updates on progress throughout the day. Apologies for the disruption this morning."

Meanwhile, Hammersmith & Fulham Council tweeted@lbhf:" We're working with @thameswater on restoring services to local people as soon as possible, following their burst water main. Council leader Stephen Cowan is at the scene receiving updates on the situation."

The burst, along with repair work following a second burst in Hammersmith's King Street, is causing road closures across the area, and motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.

Goldhawk Road remains closed to all traffic and pedestrians between Sycamore Gardens and Goldhawk Road tube station. The following roads are all closed at their junction with Goldhawk Road – no access to vehicles or pedestrians: Hammersmith Grove, Richford Street, Astrop Terrace, Titmuss Street, Sycamore Gardens and Lime Grove.

The 94 and 237 buses are on diversion.

Traffic diversions in operation are:

  • Eastbound diversion for Goldhawk Road: Askew Road > Uxbridge Road > Holland Park Roundabout
  • Westbound diversion: Shepherds Bush Green > Uxbridge Road > Askew Road
  • Road users wishing to travel toward Hammersmith Gyratory from the west will be able to use: Paddenswick Road > Dalling Road > Glenthorne Road > Beadon Road.

King Street is also closed from Goldhawk Road to Studland Street while Thames Water work to clear up after a burst water main flooded the area last Friday. This work is likely to go into next week.
