Cyclist attacks elderly motorist

77 year old man hospitalised after assault on King Street

Police at Hammersmith and Fulham are appealing for information following a serious assault on a 77 year old man, which led to him being hospitalised for 8 days with a broken jaw, broken nose, and extensive bruising.

At 17:30 hours on Monday 26.7.04 in King Street, at the junction with Leamore Street, the 77 year old man had been driving along in a white fiesta car when it is possible he clipped a cyclist, driving errantly at the location.

The male cyclist, described as a black male aged in his late teens, 6ft tall of slim build, and wearing a grey hooded top and bottoms, walked up to the open window of the victim’s car and punched the victim with great force in the face.

The suspect was riding what is believed to be a 10-speed bike and was accompanied by a friend, described as a black male in his late teens.

The suspect then calmly walked off pushing his bike up Kings Street towards the Broadway.

The victim was taken to New Charing Cross hospital and discharged on Saturday. He is still recovering from his injuries.

DC Edie Anderson, investigating said: “This was a hot summer's day on a busy street. The elderly victim is by all accounts a careful driver who has been driving for a long time. This was a vicious attack on an elderly man going about his business, and could have resulted in fatal injuries given the force of the punch and the age of the victim. I am appealing to anyone who knows the suspect, who may have spoken about the incident or the damage to his bike. I am also appealing for witnesses or anyone with any information on the attack to call police on 8246 2644. If you would like to remain anonymous please contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
