Pupil referral unit to be moved from Fulham to Hammersmith
Shepherd’s Bush MP Andy Slaughter has accused Hammersmith and Fulham Council of moving a pupil referral unit from Fulham to Hammersmith in order to appease Conservative supportersliving in Fulham.
The pupil referral unit, which is called the Bridge Academy, provides alternative secondary provision and some specialist provision for pupils with behavioural difficulties.
Hammersmith and Fulham council has stated on its website that it plans to ‘develop further some of the best aspects of the Bridge Academy including the delivery of therapeutic outreach services and support to mainstream schools.
'We would like to extend the Academy’s role to include some post 16 provision. Should all the Council’s proposals go ahead, we would look to relocate the Bridge Academy in a brand new building on the present Cambridge School site.’
This would mean moving the Bridge Academy, currently located in Finlay Street, Fulham to Cambridge Grove, Hammersmith.
Mr Slaughter said: “They intend to move the Pupil Referral Unit (for children excluded from mainstream education) there. Why? Because it is currently in a leafy part of Fulham where a lot of Tory donors live and – just as they closed and sold the homeless hostels in those streets – they want to keep their paymasters happy."
